What to do on Tenerife
In Tenerife, the beds are made, the bars are stocked and the beaches are ready for you to relax on. The welcome is as warm as the sun overhead. The index below will help you to see the range of possibilities for you to experience on Tenerife. Our reception is open 24 hours a day with English speaking staff. They will get you quickly to your comfortable apartment. Your apartment will be ready and waiting with welcome pack, satellite TV, beds made, bath linen in place. The local restaurants and bars will feed you and satisfy your thirst. All our apartments are fully equipped for you to cook for yourself if you want to. There is a small supermarket just behind Castle Harbour and Hiper Trebol a stroll (or short taxi ride) away. Ready for a swim? Dive into the large pool. A life guard is always on hand for the safety of you and your children. Or stroll down to Los Cristianos beach. It is a ten minute walk but the there you will find a yellow sand beach with ample sun beds. This part of Tenerife benefits from two water parks. Aquapark with pools, slides and dolphin shows and Sky Park with pools and the largest bungee jump in the Canaries. Rather you than me! If you want golf, Tenerife offers many courses, the closest at the entrance to Los Cristianos. A larger choice of courses is available out at the Golf del Sur development. Basing yourself in Los Cristianos gives you access to a greater variety of activities to satisfy the whole family.Tenerife offers many opportunities to enjoy the wildlife. Boat trips to see whales and dolphins are very popular. Tenerife also has two particularly good wildlife parks: Parque Las Aguilas (Eagle Park) near Los Cristianos and Loro Parque(Parrot Park) in the north of Tenerife. Both are active in the field of conservation and look after a wide range of animals. You can also enjoy camel rides and horse riding. You might take a ride up in the Las Americas balloon, tied securely to the ground but the views are fantastic. A large part of Tenerife is spread before you.Out and about in Tenerife gets you away from the seaside stuff. Rural Tenerife is very different. Walking is popular. The views are spectacular and peace and tranquilities are yours. However, we would recommend that you stick to recognised paths and perhaps join a walking group. A Jeep Safari will take you off the beaten track without the need for aching legs. If you fancy something a little different then quad bikes, go-carts or ordinary bikes maybe your thing.Mount Teide is a must to visit. This is the highest mountain in Europe. You can drive to above 21000m and a cable car will take you the rest of the way. Tenerife and other islands are spread out before you. At Icod de La Vinos, in the north of Tenerife, the “thousand year old " Dragon tree is worth a visit. There are also working banana plantations and vineyards. The Pyramids of Guimer Park shows possible links between the pyramids in Egypt, Mexico and here in Tenerife, while Parque La Gaunche will let you glimpse what life was life for the original inhabitants of Tenerife.More information on Museums can be found here. A hire car will come handy to see the whole island but remember to drive on the right and be sure to follow Spanish driving laws. The Traffic Police are not to be messed with. Los Cristianos is based around what was once a small fishing village. They still fish but Los Cristianos is now a good size town. In the interior of Tenerife you will still find traditional villages. Santa Cruz is the Capital of Tenerife. This is very much a modern Europe city with grand squares, quality shopping and historic buildings. La Laguna is Tenerife’s architectural gem. It houses the university and is packed with interesting historic buildings. On Tenerife’s north coast you will find La Orotava containing a beautiful old town and a well signposted sightseeing walking route to follow. Below this on the coast itself is Puerto de la Cruz. This was Tenerife’s original tourist destination. It too has an interesting older part as well as housing Loro Parque and El Jardín Botánico (The Botanical Garden)There are number of smaller shopping centres to be found across Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. However the serious shopper will wish to visit Santa Cruz for exclusive shopping or one of the 4 larger shopping Centres for more economic spending. Two of these are called Alcampo. One is near La Laguna and also has Toys R Us and IKEA on the same site. The second is near Lo Orotava and again is surrounded by other large stores. The other two are called Carrefour. One is on the way to Santa Cruz and the second just inside Santa Cruz right next door to El Court Ingles, a massive departmental store. Parking is free at al these Shopping Centres. Reception can advice you on public transport routes. In addition to the numerous bars and restaurants Tenerife offers many night clubs. You might, however, choose a Medieval Adventure at the Castillo San Miguel or a dinner and show at the Exit Palace. There is much more. However you like to spend your holiday , Tenerife has lots to offer you.Return to Tenerife Holidays Home Page Copyright © 2004 [Apartments Tenerife]. All rights reserved. Revised: July 18, 2006 |
